After years of being stuck in development purgatory, the Artemis Fowl movie finally has a trailer.
The new teaser released Tuesday gives fans their first look at the young adult books come to life, diving into the underground world of the fairies and revealing Artemis himself, played by newcomer Ferdia Shaw. Artemis is a young criminal mastermind and antihero who in the first book kidnaps a fairy and holds her for ransom. The series consists of eight books, released between 2001 and 2012, but this film is only an adaptation of the first.
An Artemis Fowl movie has been in some stage of development going all the way back to the first book's publication in 2001. After years of the project not getting off the ground, Disney got involved in 2013, and five years later, the book is, at last, making its way to the big screen. This adaptation is directed by Kenneth Branagh (Hamlet, Thor), and will also star Judi Dench and Josh Gad. Artemis Fowl hits theaters in August and is part of a jaw-dropping 2019 line-up for Disney that also includes Captain Marvel, Dumbo, Avengers 4, Aladdin, Toy Story 4, The Lion King, Frozen 2, and Star Wars: Episode IX.
