New York Mets great Tom Seaver has dementia and will no longer make any public appearances, his family said Thursday.

A 12-time All-Star, Seaver, 74, led the Mets to a World Series title in 1969. During the pitcher's 20-year career, he was named the National League's Rookie of the Year in 1967 and received three Cy Young Awards. He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992.
