Democrats do not like the nuclear option, man. But the GOP, well, it sure is a fan.
All preschool-level rhyming aside, the Senate voted Wednesday, largely along party lines, to invoke the so-called "nuclear option" and make it easier to confirm President Trump's nominees. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) wasn't too pleased with the decision, and when he shared that feeling, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) countered him with an absolutely Shakespearean stanza, The New York Times reports.
As Trump's nominees for the courts and other positions continued to stall in the Senate, 51 Republicans sided with McConnell's gladness Wednesday and voted to let nominees be confirmed with a simple majority vote. The resolution also limits debate on executive-branch nominees to just two hours, down from 30 under usual circumstances.
