Rose Lavelle's second half goal seals U.S. World Cup title
The United States has a new hero and her name is Rose Lavelle.
The U.S. women's national soccer team was in a tight contest with their Dutch counterparts in the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup Final in Lyon on Sunday when Lavelle's second half strike gave the Americans a 2-0 lead in the game's 69th minute, putting the Netherlands out of reach. The victory means that the U.S. successfully defended their 2015 World Cup crown and captured their fourth tournament title overall.
Megan Rapinoe converted on a penalty kick minutes earlier to put the U.S. up 1-0, but the game had been tense from the beginning. It wasn't until Lavelle's stunner that the U.S. and its fans could breathe a bit more easily. Watch the goal below. Tim O'Donnell
