Trump attacks Al Sharpton as a 'con man' who 'hates whites'
President Trump on Monday morning not only continued to go after Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) for a third day but also fired into a new attack on Al Sharpton.
After a series of weekend tweets referring to Cummings as a "racist" and calling his majority-black Baltimore-area district a "rodent-infested mess" where "no human being would want to live," Trump on Monday again went after Cummings and now also tore into Sharpton, who was heading to Baltimore. In a series of tweets, Trump claimed that Sharpton is a "con man" and "a troublemaker" who "hates whites & cops." He also claimed that Sharpton privately apologized "for the way he was talking about me" during the 2016 presidential campaign.
Sharpton responded to Trump's tweets in a Morning Joe segment on Monday, per Mediaite, saying that Trump is "peddling racism" and on Twitter calling him a bigot. Sharpton on Morning Joe also added a personal anecdote of his own on Morning Joe, saying that Trump asked to meet with him three weeks after the 2016 election.
