After a 21-day impeachment trial, the Senate is almost certain to vote down two articles of impeachment against President Trump on Wednesday afternoon. It would take 67 senators to convict Trump on the charges, obstruction of Congress and abuse of power, and none of the 53 Republicans have said they will vote in favor of either charge, even though some of them say House Democratic impeachment prosecutors proved that Trump acted inappropriately. Trump is the third U.S. president to be impeached, after Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1999. Neither was convicted. Richard Nixon resigned in 1974 in the face of likely impeachment and removal from office.
