Due to winter storm, IRS gives Texans 2 extra months to file taxes

The Internal Revenue Service announced on Monday that it is extending the tax filing deadline for Texas residents and businesses, due to the brutal winter storm that battered the state last week.

The normal deadline is April 15, but Texans will now have until June 15 to file their 2020 returns, pay any taxes owed, and make 2020 IRA contributions. This is automatically being offered, and people do not have to file for the extension.

The storm left millions without power and electricity, and homeowners across the state are now dealing with property damages caused by the frigid temperatures and snow.
