Bentley Bentayga 2020: latest spy shots, plus specs and UK release
Prototype hints at revamped bodywork, and a hi-tech cabin is rumoured too
Spy photographers have spotted a reworked version of Bentley’s Bentayga SUV undergoing winter testing.
The British marque’s first SUV has been on sale for only four years. In that time, however, Bentley has launched new, hi-tech versions of its Continental GT coupe and Flying Spur saloon – and now it appears to be turning its attention to the seemingly outdated Bentayga.
A fresh batch of spy shots of the new model, which have been circulating on the web, suggest the next Bentayga will be a thoroughly updated version of the existing model, as opposed to an all-new car.

Here’s what we know about the revamped SUV:
Release and price
There’s no official word yet on when the new Bentayga will arrive, but Autocar says more details should surface “early next year”.
With this in mind, we could see it at the Geneva Motor Show – one of the biggest motoring events of the year – which runs from 5 to 15 March.
Design and interior tech
The vehicle snapped by photographers may be covered in camouflage, but it’s clear to see that the luxury crossover has undergone an extensive makeover.
Gone are the swept-back grille and headlights. They are replaced by a more angular design that mimics the front-end of the current Continental GT. The design also gives the impression of a longer bonnet, emphasising the crossover’s stately looks.
At the back, the brake lights appear to have been “reshaped and expanded”, while the old model’s numberplate recess isn’t nearly as deep as the current one [top], notes Autocar. Both front and rear bumpers are expected to get a redesign, too.
It’s not just the exterior design that’s being overhauled, either, as the cabin is rumoured to sport “a much more comprehensive update”, according to CarBuyer.
Given that its infotainment system is beginning to lag behind its competitors, the reviews site says, it’s an area that is expected to receive the most significant update on the new model. A “reworked” digital cluster is also anticipated, as is a new suite of driver assistance settings such as rear cross-traffic alert.
Engine and performance
Given that the new Bentayga will be built on the same production platform as the new Audi SQ7, it’s expected to adopt the car’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 diesel engine – delivering 429bhp and 663lb-ft of torque to all four wheels, says Auto Express.
The motor will be coupled to a 48-volt hybrid system, meaning the new Bentayga should boast improved fuel economy and lower emissions, the motoring magazine says.
Flagship models should come with Bentley’s signature W12 motor, notes Autocar, which will also receive performance and efficiency upgrades.
