1. India reflect on shock semi-final defeat

India captain Virat Kohli admits that the team’s hearts are broken after losing to New Zealand in the Cricket World Cup semi-final yesterday.

After skittling India’s top-order batsmen the Kiwis went on to win by 18 runs and take their place in Sunday’s Cricket World Cup final at Lord’s.

Kohli said: “It breaks our hearts because you work so hard to build momentum and finish number one in the table. Then, a spell of bad cricket, and you’re out of the tournament.”

2. Hard work starts for Murray

Andy Murray’s Wimbledon campaign is over after he and Serena Williams were knocked out of the mixed doubles yesterday. Despite the loss the Scot enjoyed his time at the All England Club and is now working towards a possible return to singles tennis. In his BBC Sport column, Murray said: “Now my Wimbledon is over, my focus will switch to doing a lot of physical work over the next four to six weeks to improve the strength in my hip. That means a lot of heavy weightlifting in the gym, which is a part of training that I don’t particularly enjoy doing.”

3. Koscielny refuses to go on US tour

Arsenal have confirmed that captain Laurent Koscielny has refused to travel to the United States for the club’s pre-season tour. In a statement the Gunners said: “We are very disappointed by Laurent’s actions, which are against our clear instructions. We hope to resolve this matter and will not be providing any further comment at this time.”

4. Big Sam turns down Toon

Sam Allardyce has revealed that he turned down the chance to return to Newcastle United. The former England manager, who is known as “Big Sam”, told talkSPORT: “I was very flattered that I was considered but it’s that thing - don’t go back. It never got to the type of talks people are suggesting but it wasn’t for me. I politely said no.”

5. Costa toffee

Former Chelsea star Diego Costa could be set for a return to the Premier League. The Spanish striker left Stamford Bridge for Atletico Madrid in January 2018, but according to The Sun he is prepared to make the move back to England. Everton are keen to sign Costa and the 30-year-old is ready to talk to the Merseyside club about a “stunning” switch.

6. Women’s semi-finals day at SW19

Day ten at Wimbledon features the two women’s singles semi-finals. Up first on Centre Court is a clash between eighth seed Elina Svitolina and seventh seed Simona Halep. In the second match on Centre seven-time champion and 11th seed Serena Williams will face unseeded Barbora Strycova.

7. ‘Big three’ into the final four

Roger Federer will face great rival Rafael Nadal in the men’s singles semi-finals tomorrow. In the quarter-finals second seed Federer beat Kei Nishikori 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-4 while third seed Nadal progressed with a 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 victory against Sam Querrey. World No.1 Novak Djokovic made sure all of the “big three” were through to the final four. The defending champion and top seed beat David Goffin 6-4, 6-0, 6-2. In the semi-finals Djokovic will now play Roberto Bautista Agut, who was a 7-5, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 winner over Guido Pella.

8. New deal for Silverstone

The British Grand Prix will continue to be held at Silverstone until 2024 after a new five-year deal was agreed between Formula 1 and the circuit’s owners. This year’s event was set to be the last under the terms of the old contract, but just days ahead of the 2019 race it was announced that Silverstone will remain on the F1 calendar. Silverstone hosted the first F1 world championship race in 1950 and has been the permanent home of the British GP since 1987.

9. Lampard’s first game ends in draw

The Frank Lampard reign at Chelsea began with a 1-1 draw against the Irish side Bohemians last night. The Blues went ahead through Michy Batshuayi before the home side levelled late on through Eric Molloy at Dalymount Park in Dublin. In one month Chelsea open their Premier League campaign with a trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United, and the loosener against Bohemians was therefore a good occasion for Lampard to run an eye over his players.

10. Rivaldo: Messi should win Ballon d’Or

Brazilian legend Rivaldo has tipped Barcelona and Argentina star Lionel Messi to win a record-breaking sixth Ballon d’Or this year. He told Marca: “He didn’t win the Champions League, but it’s an individual prize. He has scored many and important goals and I think he deserves it.”

It’s not just Rivaldo who thinks Messi should win the 2019 Ballon d’Or, but also many fans. SuperSport TV presenter Adriano Del Monte posted a poll on Twitter and from more than 84,000 votes Messi finished top with a 47% share.
