Spurs transfer window 2015: positives despite Berahino regrets
Mauricio Pochettino will be pleased with the players he brought in, provided Harry Kane can find his scoring boots
Spurs failed with their last ditch effort to land Saido Berhaino on transfer deadline day, but Mauricio Pochettino will not be too downhearted after the transfer window closed - provided Harry Kane can prove that he was not an one season wonder and Eric Dier can adapt to a midfield role.
"Pochettino's main priority was to strengthen his defence and he did that early in the window, but a central midfielder and striker proved to be elusive," says the Daily Telegraph. However, the arrival of Son Heung-min does provide Spurs with some extra firepower, and the Lilywhites did manage to offload much of the club's dead wood, although Emmanuel Adebayor is still hanging around White Hart Lane like a bad smell.

Spurs failed to land transfer target Saido Berahino despite a last-ditch effort to persuade West Brom to sell the striker on deadline day.
Tottenham, who had earlier refused to meet West Brom's asking price of £25m reportedly relented and did offer the full amount only to be rebuffed by chairman Jeremy Pearce.

It leaves Spurs without a big name signing on deadline day and could also have serious repercussions for the Midlands club, after a furious Berahino vowed never to play for the Baggies again.
The 22-year-old England forward took to Twitter to vent his frustration and made it clear that he was deeply unhappy with his treatment.
The Daily Mail reports that the Spurs bid was "staggered over a number of years – believed to be the length of Berahino’s proposed five-year contract – with a number of conditions needing to be met".
Sky Sports claims that Spurs made two bids, both of which "were immediately thrown out by Albion chairman Jeremy Peace, who has consistently said Berahino will not be sold".
Spurs deadline day transfer news: Berahino deal back on?

Spurs are set for a frustrating finale to the transfer window after their last-ditch attempts to land Victor Wanyama and Alex Witsel came to nothing, as last minute talks over Saido Berahino took place.
West Brom striker Berahino has been Spurs' main transfer target this summer, but talks broke down amid acrimony last week, and Spurs later signed South Korean striker Son Heung-min. But now the Evening Standard claims that deadline day negotiations are back on.
"Interest in Berahino never really died and despite a fractious relationship between the clubs, discussions were understood to have resumed today," says the paper. "Berahino remained desperate to move to Spurs, where he would link up with sometime England Under-21 colleague Harry Kane in attack, and it is understood West Brom boss Tony Pulis is willing to sell the player."
A deal for Southampton midfielder Wanyama appeared on the cards at the weekend after he was left out of the saints squad that beat Norwich 3-0 because manager Ronald Koeman felt he was not "mentally and physically good enough to play". But according to Goal.com "Southampton held a closed-door meeting with the Kenya captain and his agent on Monday to try and convince him to stay at St Mary's after the midfielder handed in a transfer request on Friday".
Sky Sports reports that Koeman has "got his wish" and has managed to keep hold of both Wanyama and Man United target Sadio Mane.
Another Spurs target, Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Alex Witsel, will also not be moving this summer, reports the Daily Mirror. The Belgian was keen to leave and the Russian club was willing to sell to reduce the number of foreign players on its books, but the deal will not now happen.
"Spurs were weighing up a move but hadn't got as far as tabling an offer despite claims of a bid," says the paper, and Witsel "was eventually blocked from moving after Zenit ran out of time to find a replacement".
Spurs transfer news: £22m deal for striker Son Heung-min

Get in there, Son! Yes, according to Metro, Son Heung-min Son jetted into London on Wednesday to undergo a medical ahead of a £21.9m move from Bayer Leverkusen to Tottenham.
It's believed that Lilywhites gaffer Mauricio Pochettino has finally called time on his bid to sign Saido Berahino from West Bromwich Albion, and instead will shortly seal a deal for the South Korea international.
German media reports that the 23-year-old striker, who joined Leverkusen for £7.3m at the start of the 2013-14 season, came to Spurs attention after netting 21 times in 62 league games for Leverkusen.
The Evening Standard reports that Leverkusen director Rudi Voller has confirmed that the player has taken a medical at Spurs, but adds: "Leverkusen have not yet reached an agreement over the terms of any deal and the former Germany manager warned there was no guarantee they would."
One player that Spurs definitely won't be landing in the coming days is Southampton's Victor Wanyama with ESPN reporting that the Saints have informed the midfielder "that he will not be allowed to leave the club in this transfer window".
Tottenham and Arsenal have both been tracking the 24-year-old Kenyan amid rumours that he is "eager to explore the possibility of leaving the club" just two years after arriving from Celtic. But ESPN says that Ronald Koeman is "determined" that no more of his top talents leave St Mary's after the departures of Morgan Schneiderlin (Manchester United) and Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool).

The likelihood of Saido Berahino being a Baggie much longer look slim after the 22-year-old striker handed in a written transfer request.

says that it "now appears inevitable the England Under-21 striker will be on the move" before the transfer window slams shut a week today. Having been left out of the West Brom squad that played and lost to Chelsea on Sunday, Berahino's days at the Hawthorns appear numbered with the Sun reporting that Spurs "lead the chase" for the frontman having already had a £15m bid rejected by Albion.
But Tottenham are apparently desperate to bring Berahino to the Lane and pair him with Harry Kane, a partnership that also allegedly appeals to the Baggies hitman.
But the standoff between player and his current club may go down to the wire with the Sun reporting that Berahino's request was "promptly filed in the West Brom bin" with the club issuing a statement by way of response: "West Bromwich Albion has received a written transfer request from Saido Berahino. The request has been rejected and the club's position remains unchanged."
Though WBA said there would be no further comment on the saga, it's believed the Baggies position is that they are willing to sell to Spurs but only if the north London club meets their asking price of £25m. All of which has left manager Tony Pulis "agitated" at the prospect of seeing Berahino leave on Deadline Day with precious time to bring in a suitable replacement.
Consequently, says The Sun, Pulis would prefer to reach "an early agreement with a buyer to boost his transfer war chest."
Spurs transfer news: Berahino and Adebayor deals fall through

It looks like Tottenham's dreams of signing Saido Berahino have bitten the dust with The Guardian reporting that the Lilywhites have seen their £18m bid hurled pit of the Hawthorns.

So determined are the Baggies to hang on to Berahino that they took what the Guardian described as "the unusual step of releasing a statement" from club chairman Jeremy Peace.
Posted on the official website, Peace's polemic stated: "We have no interest in selling Saido, which is what I have told Daniel Levy [the Tottenham chairman]. I know we are living in an age where no club can say 'never' about the possibility of selling a player... [but] the prospect of selling Saido is simply not on our agenda. We are going forward with Saido very much in our plans and still striving to add players to improve the balance of our squad."
According to the Guardian Spurs will still likely "return with an improved offer", perhaps seeing a glimmer of light in Peace's admission that every player has his price. That price, as far as Berahino goes is £25m, and it's now up to Spurs to meet that valuation of look elsewhere for additional forward firepower.
There are more bad tidings for the Lilywhites with the news that Emmanuel Adebayor's proposed move to West Ham has fallen through. The striker, who has been told he will not play for Spurs again but is still being paid £110,000 a week, was close to a move to West Ham, but "West Ham called Spurs to say they did not want to proceed with the deal", reports the Daily Telegraph.
Spurs are desperate to offload Adebayor, who has not even been given a squad number this season, and were prepared to let the Hammers have him for free. They have even offered Adebayor a pay-off to leave the club, but the Togo striker is demanding that the final year of his contract is paid in full, something Daniel Levy is not prepared to sanction.
Spurs transfer news: Berahino hitch as N'Jie flies in to sign

Spurs' pursuit of West Brom striker Saido Berahino appears to have reached an impasse, with the London club refusing to meet the Baggies £25m valuation of the player, as the Lilywhites are linked to a host of other strikers.
Tottenham had hoped to land 22-year-old England Under-21 striker Berahino for around half what West Brom are asking, but the Daily Mail says the Lilywhites could offer as much as £18m for player.

But it is not just Berahino who is on Mauricio Pochettino's radar, and Spurs are closing in on a deal for Clinton N'Jie. The Daily Star says the club have thrashed out a deal worth up to £13m with French club Lyon for the Cameroon striker. The 21-year-old is expected in London for a medical "in the next few days", adds the paper.
That won't be the end of Daniel Levy's spending either, as Spurs "are still in the hunt for another forward to provide competition for Harry Kane".
Berahino remains an option, says the Star, along with QPR striker Charlie Austin and Manchester United misfit Javier Hernandez.
It's all change up front at White Hart Lane this summer with Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado to be moved on this summer, although offloading to the two flop sis proving harder than expected with Villarreal unwilling to pay the £15m asking price for Soldado and Adebayor in no hurry to leave.
Spurs transfer news: Berahino deal close after WBA exit hint

With three weeks remaining of the summer transfer window rumours are flying faster than jokes about Petr Cech and Metro claims that Tottenham have "been handed a boost" in their pursuit of Saido Berahino. Why? Because West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis refused to confirm that the 22-year-old striker, who scored 14 league goals last season, will remain loyal to the Hawthorns this season.
Spurs are believed to be "very interested" in the England Under-21 frontman with manager Mauricio Pochettino seeing him as the ideal striker partner for Harry Kane.
Asked about the possibility of Berahino moving to White Hart Lane, Pulis replied: "Never say never in football because you just don't know what's around the corner." Pressed on the situation, the Baggies boss admitted "we want to keep him at the club", but the signing on Monday of Zenit St Petersburg striker Salomon Rondon for a club record fee of around £12m, fuelled speculation that West Brom are preparing to sell Berahino.
BBC Sport reports that Rondon, a Venezuela international, has agreed a four-year contract and is the club's fifth summer signing.
Spurs transfer news: Soldado sparks bidding war in Spain

Tottenham can look forward to a bidding war for the services of flop Roberto Soldado as Villarreal let it be known they will go head-to-head with fellow Spanish outfit Sevilla for his signature.
Despite scoring just seven Premier League goals - three of them penalties – in his two years at White Hart Lane, Soldado is still well regarded in Spain and the Daily Mirror claims that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will demand £11m for the 30-year-old.
That still represents a loss of £15m on the player Tottenham signed from Valencia in 2013. Sevilla are reportedly "willing to match his current wages of £40,000 after tax" but now Villarreal coach Marcelino has let it be known he's interested in a striker he believes "can increase the team level and can add more competitiveness to our group." The Mirror is confident the Spaniard will return to Sevilla because they can offer him Champions League football this season.
Another player seemingly on the verge of leaving the Lane is Emmanuel Adebayor with Aston Villa his destination. Sky Sports is just one of several media outlets to report that the 31-year-old frontman was "spotted at Villa's training ground" on Tuesday. It's believed Adebayor will undergo a medical today and, provided that's successful, sign on with the Midlands club.
Spurs transfer news: Saints row won't stop Alderweireld deal
7 July
Defender Toby Alderweireld is finally on his way to Spurs, but the move will leave Southampton seething, according to the Evening Standard.
The paper reports the Belgian defender was in London yesterday and will sign a five-year contract at White Hart Lane for an initial fee of £10m with £1.5m in add-ons.
But things might not be that simple as Alderweireld was on loan at Southampton last season from Atletico Madrid and the Saints have threatened legal action if he is allowed to join anyone else.
Southampton had the option to buy Alderweireld outright for £6.8m reports the Evening Standard, but another clause apparently allowed Atletico to sell him to a higher bidder as long as they then passed some of the fee onto the Saints.

Spurs, it appears, are unconcerned by the dispute between the two clubs because it does not directly involve them, and are just happy to have secured the services of the full back.
Alderweireld would become the third defender to join Spurs this summer as they have already signed Kieran Trippier from Burnley and Cologne's Kevin Wimmer.
Mauricio Pochettino also wants to strengthen his midfield this summer reports the Daily Mirror, which says that Spurs want Everton midfielder James McCarthy, who has also been linked with rivals Arsenal, and are prepared to offer £20m, plus Aaron Lennon as part of the deal.
The Republic of Ireland star, 24, has three years left on his contract at Goodison Park but Everton are reluctant to sell. But Spurs hope including Lennon, who was on loan at Everton last season, will tempt them.
Spurs transfer news: Tottenham favourites to sign Alderweireld

Tottenham have been described by the Sunday Times as "favourites" in the race to sign Belgian defender Toby Alderweireld, after impressing the 26-year-old who developed a taste for the Premier League when he spent last season on loan at Southampton.
The 26-year-old, who is now back with regular employers Atletico Madrid in Spain, was allegedly "offered" to Chelsea earlier in the summer as part of a deal to lure the Blues' Filipe Luis back to La Liga. But the Sunday Times says Chelsea are instead concentrating their efforts on Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti, a France Under-21 international.
So that's left the way open for Spurs and is appears that Alderweireld has liked what he's heard in recent conversations with Tottenham, "telling friends that he is close to joining".
That will come as a blow to Southampton who had the option of converting the loan deal "into a £5.7m full transfer", but only if Atletico Madrid didn't receive a bigger offer from a Premier League outfit.
Spurs transfer news: Cabaye move, Barcelona block Bartra

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is planning to rebuild his midfield this summer and wants to bring former Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye to White Hart Lane, reports the Daily Mirror.
The 29-year-old Frenchman quit St James' Park for Paris Saint Germain at the start of 2014 but has failed to secure a regualar place in the French champions' starting XI and is now "desperate" to join a club where he can get regular game time to ensure he makes the France squad for Euro 2016.
Crystal Palace are said to be interested but so, too, are Spurs. Pochettino is ready to offload the likes of Paulinho, Etienne Capoue, Mousa Dembele and Benjamin Stambouli and sees Cabaye as an ideal replacement.
One player definitely on his way to White Hart Lane is Burnley defender Kieran Trippier. The London Evening Standard reports that the 24-year-old has undergone a medical at Spurs and will sign for £3.5m.
Both Tottenham and Liverpool have received what Caughtoffside describes as "bad news" in their pursuit of Marc Bartra. The Spanish defender has been on the radar of the two Premier League clubs – along with Bayern Munich and Arsenal - but Barcelona representatives have rubbished suggestions that Bartra is on his way out of the Camp Nou.
Talking to Portuguese paper O Jogo, Barcelona sporting director Ariedo Braida was asked whether the club would countenance selling the 24-year-old defender: "Bartra is un-transferable," he replied. "I don't know if there are negotiations, but I don't think that leaving Barcelona is in his plans."
Asked if they might consider letting him go if a suitable offer was received, Braida retorted: "Marc Bartra is a quality player and like all quality players, many clubs are interested, but we will not sell him."
Spurs transfer news: teen star Werner lined up for Kane

Tottenham have expressed an interest in Stuttgart's teenage striker Timo Werner "but are yet to place a bid", says the Daily Mail. But it adds that the Lilywhites are considering tabling a £7.5m offer for the 19-year-old with manager Mauricio Pochettino looking to bring in more forwards to support Harry Kane.
With Spurs ready to offload Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado, Tottenham have identified Werner as the man to form a potent partnership alongside Kane. The Mail says Werner is one German football's "most promising talents", and if Spurs are to win the race to his signature they'll have to beat off competition from Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.
Werner is not the only young striker on the Spurs radar. They have also been linked with 19-year-old Monaco forward Anthony Martial and Villa hitman Christian Benteke.
Elsewhere and the Evening Standard reports that Spurs midfielder Christian Eriksen has declared he has no intention of leaving Tottenham this summer. The Dane, who arrived at the Lane in 2013 in a £11.5m transfer from Dutch giants Ajax, dismissed recent rumours linking him with a move to the continent. "I feel right at home at Tottenham," he told Danish news agency Ritzau. "I haven't thought about leaving yet. I still have three years on my current deal so I'm not in a big rush to leave the club."
Spurs transfer news: Lilywhites join hunt for Christian Benteke

The latest club to join the race to land Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke are Tottenham. According to The Sun, the Lilywhites have joined Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea in the hunt for the 24-year-old frontman.
The Sun says that Villa turned down an offer of £25m offer two years ago from Spurs but that manager Mauricio Pochettino will try to sign Benteke again this summer. The sharpshooter has a £32.5m buy-out clause in his Villa contract and though it's believed Spurs won't table a bid in that region just yet, they will test the water with what the Sun calls "a cheeky £20m" offer. The paper adds that Benteke has made it clear to Villa that he wants to leave and it just depends on which club comes up with the biggest offer in the coming weeks.
The Lilywhiltes are also monitoring 19-year-old Monaco forward Anthony Martial, reports The Independent. It says that talks between the two clubs over an £18.2m deal have already begun with Spurs boss Pochettino keen to bring in more young talent.
"However, investing nearly £20m on a player who has shown a lot of potential yet remains largely unproven – especially in the Premier League – would pose a risk for the club," says the paper, which adds that if they do take the plunge, Spurs will offload Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor.
Spurs transfer news: are Barcelona really after Kane?

Who didn't see this coming? After a sensational debut season it appears that Harry Kane might have admirers among the European elite.
It can't come as much of a surprise to anyone with an ear to the transfer grapevine, but the Daily Star seems taken aback by unconfirmed reports that Barcelona are thinking about making an offer for Tottenham hitman Kane. "Shock" and "stunning" are just two of the words used by the paper to describe the rumour.
The 21-year-old Spurs striker has been the standout player of the Premier League this season, netting 30 times for the Lilywhites and now the Star says his form could lead him to the Camp Nou.
Real Madrid are known to have sent scouts to the Lane to run an eye over the young frontman but it seems Barcelona are also desperate to sign the PFA Young Player of the Year and regard Kane as a "good option to lead the line in the future".
There is a slight problem, though, as the Catalan club can't sign any new players until 2016. However, it's reported in Spain that they could make Spurs an irresistible offer in the summer and take Kane next year.
Rather more believable is the London Evening Standard's claim that Erik Lamela has become a transfer target for Inter Milan after receiving a "personal recommendation" from Roberto Mancini. Argentine Lamela has not been a huge success in English football since his £30m arrival two seasons ago.
Although he has had more impact this season than last, Spurs are prepared to let him go as long as the price is right. Inter are said to be preparing an offer that involves a loan deal next season with an obligation to buy in the summer of 2016.
One player who Spurs have no intention of selling is keeper Hug Lloris, with the Daily Mail claiming that they are ready for a game of "hardball" with Manchester United over his future. The paper says United see Lloris as a potential replacement for David de Gea, but Spurs have responded by slapping a £35m price tag on the French shot stopper, who is also attracting interest from Paris Saint-Germain.

Who will be playing in goal at the Lane next season if Spurs fail to qualify for the Champions League? According to The Guardian current stopper Hugo Lloris is "frustrated" will "consider his future" at Spurs if, as seems likely, the Lilywhites fail to break into the top four this season.
The keeper believes his career is at a crossroads and is acutely aware that he is one of the few players in the French national team not currently playing in Europe's premier competition.
Possible destinations include Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United, says the paper.
He may not be the only player heading for the exit this summer. The London Evening Standard claims nine other players have been deemed surplus to requirements and could be on their way out at the end of the season.
Among them are Younes Kaboul, who began the season as captain but has barely had a look-in since the autumn, and misfiring striker Roberto Soldado, who was the club's record signing when he arrived for £26m in 2013.
Also heading for the exit are Emmanuel Adebayor, Vlad Chiriches, Etienne Capoue, Paulinho, Mousa Dembele and Aaron Lennon. French midfielder Benjamin Stambouli could be off too, adds the paper.
One player who could be arriving in London this summer is Austrian defender Kevin Wimmer, who confirmed that Tottenham are on his trail during an interview with German radio station 1LIVE, this week.
The Koln centre-back has caught the eye of Tottenham gaffer Mauricio Pochettino as he looks to shore up his defence after another inconsistent season at the Lane. Austrian international Wimmer is on his summer shopping list and it's believed Pochettino has tabled a bid in the region of £4m for the Koln defender.
"Definitely there is interest in my services," said Wimmer, who when asked for his position replied: "Nothing is done yet. Both clubs have agreed we will at first be sure of our top-flight status, and then we will see what's going to happen."
According to the Daily Express, Chelsea intend to nip in in front of Tottenham to pinch Damien Dussaut. The French 20-year-old - yes, you've guessed it, described as a "starlet" - only joined Standard Liege from Valenciennes at the start of the season but the Express says that he has so impressed Jose Mourinho that the Blues boss will table a bid next month. Once he's signed terms with Chelsea, Dussaut will, says the Express, be loaned out to either Mouscron or Vitesse Arnheim next season to gain further experience.
Spurs transfer news: £10m swoop for French star Thauvin
20 April
Spurs are lining up a move for Marseilles winger Florian Thauvin this summer according to reports this weekend. Rumours from the continent say that Mauricio Pochettino could land the 22-year-old for around £10.8m, according to Metro.
Although Thauvin is under contract until 2018, Marseille are thought to be in financial trouble and may have to offload players this summer. It is believed that an offer in the region of £10m would secure a deal.
However, claims that Spurs are lining up a triple swoop on the French side are dismissed by website Sport Witness. It says that Andre Ayew and Andre-Pierre Gignac will be available on free transfers in the summer but adds that "the interest from Spurs wasn't huge and they've walked away from the idea of a deal for either".
Meanwhile new teenage signing Dele Alli, who joined Spurs from MK Dons for £5m in the January transfer window and was loaned back to the League One club, says he is looking forward to teaming up with the Lilywhites next term.
The 19-year-old has had a fine season and was voted Football League Player of the Year on Sunday. He told The Independent that Tottenham was "the perfect club for me".
Tottenham transfer news: four-way race to sign Moreno

Tottenham have received a boost in their pursuit of Mexican marvel Hector Moreno, whose agent has said that he'll soon be seeking a new employer.
However, Spurs they'll face stiff competition if they try to land their man. According to the Daily Star, Manchester United and Arsenal are also monitoring the Espanyol centre-back, who comes with a £6m price tag.
So too are Juventus, mind, with the Italian giants said by Italian media to be ready to table an offer for the Mexican, who is expected to leave La Liga at the end of the season.
Asked where he might go, Moreno's agent, Eduardo Hernandez, gave no clues, merely saying: "Moreno is leaving Espanyol. He wants to leave and we're looking for another team in Europe."
The Star says that the English suitors will hope to see off Juventus. "Despite interest from Italy, the Premier League trio will be confident of luring Moreno away from Espanyol," it says.

It's all change at White Hart Lane as Tottenham prepare to usher underperforming stars towards the turnstyle.
Goal.com forecasts "a major summer overhaul", with Spurs prepared to offload as many as ten players as chairman Daniel Levy gets rid of the dead wood.
Goal.com says that Levy is "ready to accept a loss on signings that have failed to make the grade". Tottenham have coughed up more than £140 million on new players since Franco Baldini's appointment as technical director in 2013, but most have bombed at the Lane.
Goal says that Roberto Soldado (£26 million), Erik Lamela (£30 million), Paulinho (£16 million) are among the players likely to be moved on at the end of season, along with Emmanuel Adebayor, Younes Kaboul and Mousa Dembele.
And the cull may not be limited to players. "Baldini has long been expected to follow his failed signings out of north London at the end of season," says Goal.com. "The Italian, while respected for his contacts and personal skills, is no longer trusted to lead Spurs' transfer strategy."

The race to sign Harry Kane is hotting up with reports that Juventus scouts will be out in force at next week's England friendly, while Manchester United are hoping to make friends with Dani Alves by making him an irresistible offer.
Juventus are planning an Italian job on Tottenham striker Harry Kane when he lines up for England against Italy in next week's friendly international. According to Metro the 21-year-old will "be scouted by the Serie A giants", who like most of the European powerhouses are taking a healthy interest in the young English sharpshooter. Metro, quoting Italy's Tuttomercato, says that not only will scouts be eyeing up the Spurs star but that Juventus officials are "keen to hold talks with Kane's representatives", who are expected to be present for Tuesday night's clash. But before Spurs fans get too despondent, Metro says that any potential move would be "extremely complicated" because Tottenham's current valuation of Kane is likely to be far more than Juventus are willing to pay.
The future of Barcelona full-back Dani Alves continues to be a source of fevered speculation despite noises from the Camp Nou last week suggesting he was close to signing on for another stint. But according to the Daily Star Manchester United will try to lure him from Barcelona with the offer of a "colossal £150,000 per-week contract". Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal have all been linked to the Brazilian this season but the Star says that United are determined to land the 31-year-old Alves and will offer him a huge salary despite the fact he's approaching the twilight of their career.
Frank Lampard will not be heading Stateside till the summer, according to New York City head coach Jason Kreis. Goal.com reports that the 36-year-old former England midfielder will stay at Manchester City until the end of the season, and not – as had been speculated earlier in the week – leave for the MLS in the coming days. "No, it's certainly not something that's being discussed," explained Kreis. "We're approaching this in the exact same way that we have since in January when we found out for sure that he was staying until the summer, and we need to prepare ourselves and be ready for him to join us in the summer."
The Saints are already drawing up their summer list with Talksport reporting that Southampton are "lining up a cut-price" move for sporting Braga striker Eder. The 27-year-old sharpshooter, who's scored 22 goals in 56 league outings since arriving in Portugal three years ago, is out of contract next year. Braga don't want to see Eder leave on a free so it's believed they'll listen to offers in the summer. Talksport claim that Saints' scouts have watched the 27-year-old in action on several occasions and his price tag of just £1m adds to his appeal.
