BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe 2020: official images, specs, price and UK release
New four-door model is set to challenge entry-level saloons from Audi and Mercedes
The new model, dubbed the 2 Series Gran Coupe, sits alongside the existing two-door coupe, convertible and performance-focused M2 models in the 2 Series range.
As well as marking the introduction of the Gran Coupe name to BMW’s entry-level coupe line-up, the new car also previews the design of the German carmaker’s next-generation 2 Series. The current line-up is based on the previous-generation 1 Series platform, while the Gran Coupe shares its underpinnings with the latest version of the hatchback.

We’ll see new versions of the 2 Series coupe, convertible and M2 in the near future. For now, here’s what we know about the four-door model:
Price and release
According to Autocar, prices for the 2 Series Gran Coupe start at £25,815, which is only about £100 more than the current 2 Series coupe.
BMW has opened the order books for the new model, with deliveries due to kick off in March.

The 2 Series Gran Coupe blends several elements from the company’s entry-level 1 Series hatchback and the 3 Series saloon.
The new model’s front end has been plucked from the 1 Series, with LED headlights as standard, says Auto Express. And while the rear end follows a new design, the horizontal headlights serve as a nod to the 3 Series.
The four-door coupe measures in at 4,526mm in length, 1,800mm wide and 1,420mm in height, making it “just about a size down from the 3 Series”, the magazine says. There’s a 430-litre boot, too, which is bigger than the luggage space offered on the 1 Series hatch.

Step inside and you’ll find the same dashboard and switchgear as those in the hatchback, says Carbuyer. Features include a 8.8in touchscreen infotainment system that comes as standard, with the option to upgrade to a 10.25in system.
In front of the driver sits a digital instrument cluster, which is powered by the latest version of BMW’s iDrive cabin software.
Engine and performance

The 2 Series Gran Coupe is available with a selection of three and four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, which are connected to either seven or eight-speed automatic gearboxes, Evo reports. A six-speed manual can be specced on entry-level models, while higher trims are available with xDrive all-wheel drive.
At launch, the range will be limited to the 218i, powered by a 138bhp 1.5-litre turbo three-cylinder motor, and a diesel-engined 220d xDrive with 187bhp. BMW has also announced a top-spec M235i that packs a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol motor developing 302bhp.
