Auction round-up: Rich pickings for August

Jewellery is always a popular category at auction, and Chiswick Auctions has a sale of Summer Jewels on 1 August that features a curated selection of pieces by Cartier and Tiffany & Co. Highlights include a pair of Lalaounis diamond-set bombe earrings (£2,000-3,000) and a pair of malachite baton cufflinks by Boucheron (£1,800-2,200).

Birmingham-based Fellows is going to be busy this month, with three specialist sales alongside its regular auctions. The Ancient & Modern Jewellery on 10 August will feature a diverse selection of pieces, from an Edwardian platinum diamond tiara (£8,000-12,000) to a Van Cleef & Arpels diamond and gem-set butterfly pendant (£3,600-4,600). On 21 August, its Designer Collection auction features covetable pre-owned handbags from preeminent designers, such as a Medium Classic Double-Flap handbag from Chanel (£1,000-1,500), a vintage Constance handbag from Hermès (£800-1,200) and an irresistible spiked Sweet Charity handbag from Christian Louboutin (£180-260). And finally, on 29 August, The Watch Sale has many exquisite timepieces for sale, including a limited-edition men's 1894 Centenary Collection watch (£4,000-6,000) and an 18ct rose gold Ladymatic Co-axial bracelet watch (£10,000-15,000) both from Omega, and a stainless steel Reverso Night & Day watch (£3,500-4,500) and AMVOX Aston Martin World chronograph (£6,000-8,000) from Jaeger-LeCoultre.

Those seeking artwork at auction this month should head to Edinburgh on 17 August, for Lyon & Turnbull's Contemporary & Post-War Art Auction. Notable works include this 1982 collage by Sir Eduardo Paolozzi, the flat design for his Central Line platform mosaic at Tottenham Court Road Station (£20,000-30,000). The sale also includes some of Paolozzi's plaster maquette sculptures, such as Head (£2,000-3,000). Another key lot is Sun Ride by acclaimed abstract artist Sir Terry Frost, signed and dated 1986-90 (£20,000-30,000).

At Batemans in Stamford on 5 August there's an auction of Fine Art, Antiques & Collectables. Key lots include a 1912 Royal Worcester vase by Harry Davis, featuring sheep in a highland landscape (£2,000-3,000) and a four-piece decorative silver tea service by Mappin & Webb from 1914 (£400-600).

August is a great time for perusing classic cars, and enthusiasts will be flocking to Anglia Car Auctions' fourth classic event of the year, on 26 August. It has some fine examples of top marques at a wide range of prices, with money-no-object picks including a 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 Sport Targa (£36,000-42,000) and a fully restored 1958 Mercedes Benz 190SL (£90,000-110,000) – perfect for late-summer motoring.
