Drink like the stars: five celebrity-backed alcohol brands
Tipples with star appeal – from Brad Pitt’s Oscars champagne to Kylie’s prosecco
1. Fleur de Miraval – Brad Pitt
Champagne
Brad Pitt is going to be the toast of this weekend’s Academy Awards, quite literally. The Hollywood actor is a co-owner of rosé champagne brand, Fleur de Miraval, which will be poured out as the official drink of this year’s Oscars.
Fleur de Miraval took over from “classic champers” Piper-Heidsieck for the first time last year, said Louella Berryman on Delish. And it was the first-ever “celebrity fizz” to be served at the famous film event. This weekend the “nearly $400-a-bottle” brut rosé will be served during the awards ceremony at the Dolby Theatre as well as at the official Governors Ball after-party. “How glam!”

2. Casamigos – George Clooney
Tequila and mezcal
Brad Pitt isn’t the only Hollywood icon to have a side hustle in alcoholic beverages. His Ocean’s Eleven co-star George Clooney was one of the founders of tequila and mezcal brand Casamigos, which has grown to be a hugely popular – and successful – company.
In June 2017, drinks giants Diageo bought Casamigos in a deal worth $1bn (£790m). Named as the “tequila brand champion” for 2022 by The Spirits Business, Casamigos reported a “whopping” 95.6% sales increase to 2.2 million cases in 2021, “far outpacing all other million-case-selling tequila brands”.

3. Kylie Minogue Prosecco Rosé
Prosecco and wine
Aussie songstress Kylie Minogue has “conquered” Britain with her rosé prosecco, said The Guardian. The singer’s “branded fizz” made £7.7m in 2021, making it “the nation’s favourite”. Is this the “most perfect” brand extension ever?
Produced by the prestigious Zonin estate, a family-owned winery in Italy’s beautiful Veneto region, Kylie’s prosecco rosé comes in a heart-embossed bottle and provides aromas of fresh strawberries, raspberries and almond blossom. Kylie is “light and fun and bubbly, just like her wine”.
Wines by Kylie Minogue has four “Signature” expressions (Prosecco Rosé; Rosé, Vin de France; Sauvignon Blanc; No Alcohol Sparkling Rosé) and four in the “Collection” (Côtes de Provence; Côtes de Provence Cru Classé Rosé; Margaret River Chardonnay; Yarra Valley Pinot Noir 2020).
4. Aviation American Gin – Ryan Reynolds
Gin
In August 2020 Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds toasted a “big payday”, said Sky News, after he became the latest celeb to make lucrative profits from endorsing or owning a premium alcohol brand.
Alongside majority owner Davos Brands, the Canadian actor had a stake in Aviation American Gin, which was snapped up by Diageo for $610m (£460m).
As part of the deal, Reynolds retained an ongoing ownership interest in Aviation American Gin and remained the public face of brand. “The drinks are on Ryan.”
5. Haig Club – David Beckham
Whisky
Diageo has also partnered with former England football captain David Beckham and music mogul Simon Fuller to launch Scotch whisky brand Haig Club in 2014.
Presented in distinctive blue bottles, the Lowland single grain whisky has its roots in 17th-century Scotland, despite launching only nine years ago, said ScotchWhisky.com.
Distilled at Cameronbridge Distillery, Haig Club has a number of varieties: Clubman, Haig Club Deluxe, and Mediterranean Orange Spirit Drink.
