Best travel strollers to take on flights
Foldable pushchairs approved for airline overhead lockers
1. Joolz Aer+ Buggy
This newly improved model has perhaps the best folding mechanism of any on test – it folds and unfolds in a very smooth action with just one hand in a second, leaving you free to hold a wriggling baby or bags in the other. At just 6kg, it’s up there with the lightest options too, and an integrated stretchy strap means it can conveniently be carried over your shoulder when not in use. It not only looks the part, but it features a top-end spec too: four-wheel suspension, full recline, five-point harness, and decent storage underneath. There’s also a clever folding bassinet option which means you’re all set for a newborn, and raincover is included, although the bumper bar is an extra.
2. Cybex Coya
An ultra-compact option – matching the even smallest other alternative for size when collapsed – this stylish buggy is perfect for the space conscious user. Despite this, comfort for the child hasn’t been sacrificed at all – seat padding and configuration is excellent. There’s a generous adjustable leg rest, it reclines particularly flat, and it has a convenient one-pull five-point harness system. If you choose this brand for other product choices, it’s also compatible with Cybex baby car seats to make life even easier.

3. Yoyo2 Stroller
Not only a great choice for travelling families – the Yoyo is almost ubiquitous with overhead locker compliance – it’s also established itself as a trendy must-have for well-heeled city dwelling parents. It’s for good reason too. Folding down really small, and weighing just 6.2kg, the combination is hard to beat, and now the Yoyo2 is updated with individual wheel suspension on all four wheels and an improved buckle design. You can choose from 11 really nice colourways, and add a plethora of accessories including skis and parasols.
4. Ergobaby Metro+ Deluxe Stroller
At 8.3kg it might not be the lightest option, however, it still folds down very compactly, and it’s loaded with features which, for some, will justify the extra weight. This updated model features a cup holder and support bar (which is able to remain in place when folding – with nearly all others it needs to be removed), and also an enlarged expandable storage basket. Very unusually for a travel buggy, it also has an adjustable handlebar making it a great choice for taller parents. For the child, the seat padding is very plush, and a generous leg rest and near flat recline make it really comfortable for them.
5. Bugaboo Butterfly
Setting this buggy apart is an impressive underseat basket capacity of 8kg, making it a highly versatile choice for running errands while with your little one. It features a really generous integrated leg rest – adjustable to five positions – for added comfort. At 7.3kg – around a kilo heavier than other options – it’s certainly not the lightest, but once collapsed, it’s back on a par with the other best options. Folding and unfolding mechanism is simple and done with one hand, then conveniently carried via the shoulder strap or integrated handle.
