England have set Sri Lanka a target of 447 runs to win the first Test after Keaton Jennings scored 146 not out in the away side’s second innings.

Resuming the third day of the opening Test in Galle on 38-0, opener Jennings hit a “brilliant” century, the BBC reports, as England declared on 322-6. Ben Stokes also impressed with the bat, scoring 62 before being bowled by Dilruwan Perera.

After England declared late in the day Sri Lanka came out for their second innings and were 15-0 at stumps. They have to bat out the final two days to secure a draw or score a total of 462 to win.

Jennings, who scored his first Test century for England since his debut in 2016, shared a 102-run stand with Stokes and 50-run partnerships with Rory Burns, Jos Buttler and Ben Foakes.

Speaking to Sky Sports the 26-year-old Lancashire opening batsman said: “I took risks at the right time - it felt like there was a ball in there that could get you out. It was cat and mouse at times.

“It was made easier batting with people like Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler who can smack it all over the place. All you can do is score runs when you get the opportunity. The summer was tough but my performances weren’t up to scratch.”

First Test day four TV and radio schedule

Day four of the first Test match starts at 4.30am tomorrow (UK time). Sky Sports Cricket will broadcast live from 4.15am while talkSPORT 2’s ball-by-ball radio coverage begins at 4am.
