Euro 2016: Stars who miss out through injury – in pictures
There will be plenty of stars on show in France, but there will also be several big names missing
Euro 2016 will showcase some of the world's best footballers, but a number of high profile players will be absent from the tournament in France because of injury.
Germany have been particularly badly hit, with Ilkay Gundogan ruled out before the end of last season, Marco Reus dropped from the squad because of a groin problem and defender Antonio Rudiger floored after rupturing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during Germany's first training session in France.
Italy are also suffering, with midfielders Marco Verratti and Claudio Marchisio both absent. Belgium must get by without their leader Vincent Kompany, who has endured a miserable season with Manchester City.

England have not escaped the curse. Danny Welbeck has been ruled out due to a knee injury, handing Marcus Rashford his big international break, and goalkeeper Jack Butland is also out of the tournament after he broke his ankle during England's victory over Germany.
Some players have been luckier than others. Joe Ledley's hopes of playing for Wales appeared to be in tatters after he broke his leg playing for Crystal Palace on 7 May, but he has made a miraculous recovery and will be fit to represent his country in France.
