MG4 review: what the car critics say
MG’s first bespoke EV is fun to drive, comfortable and quick to charge

MG’s first bespoke EV has plenty of technology and solid practicality, said Auto Express. This affordable family hatchback is fun to drive, comfortable, and boasts impressive efficiency and speedy charging. It has much in common with the VW ID.3, which also has a rear-mounted 200bhp motor. Road noise is noticeable at higher speeds, but the ride is soft and it darts around corners, which is useful in town.
The MG4 has a choice of three models, said Top Gear. There is the Standard Range SE with 51kWh battery and a 217-mile range; then two Long Range options: SE and Trophy, both with 64kWh, doing 0-62mph in just under eight seconds. There’s also a 77kWh Extended Range in the works, offering a potential 329-miles. MG says that it can meet demand, and has predicted impressive residual values for the MG4.
A cross between a hatchback and an SUV, the MG4 is a distinctive car, with snazzy lights, said Sunday Times Driving. Inside, there are two screens as standard – a 10.25-inch floating touchscreen and a 7-inch driver’s display – plus a row of switches for vital functions. Most of the buttons are on the steering wheel, which is a bit fiddly. Material quality is so-so, but it feels solid and well-engineered, with plenty of legroom and headroom.
