Horse wins restraining order against pensioner
And other stories from the stranger side of life
A retired racehorse in Yorkshire has won a restraining order against a grandmother who would not stop feeding him carrots. The chestnut gelding, called Nelson, was regularly visited by Margaret Porter, 67, who felt the horse was “looking quite sad”. However, Nelson’s owner claimed Porter had mounted a campaign of harassment by ignoring her pleas to leave the horse alone. York Magistrates’ Court convicted Porter of harassment and took the unusual step of affording the horse legal protection.
All-you-can-eat restaurant ban
A man in China has been barred from an all-you-can-eat restaurant for eating too much. The man, known only as Mr Kang, said he was banned from the Handadi Seafood BBQ Buffet in Changsha city after he ate 1.5kg of pork trotters on one visit and 4kg of prawns on another. “Every time he comes here, I lose a few hundred yuan,” said the restaurant’s owner. Mr Kang argued that the establishment is "discriminatory" against people who can eat a lot.
