Arsenal have “opened talks” with Fenerbahce over a possible loan deal for Mesut Ozil, according to reports in Turkey.

The midfielder is a peripheral figure at the Emirates this season and it’s clear that as far as Unai Emery is concerned the German is no longer part of his first-team plans.

Metro claims that the Arsenal manager is “wholly unimpressed with Ozil’s attitude in training” and his days at the club are numbered with reports suggesting they are desperate to offload him in January.

Rocky relationship

The 30-year-old is said to have a “difficult relationship” with Emery but it’s been alleged that Ozil will only move when he wants to. He was linked to Fenerbahce over the summer but Football365 claims that the “financial aspects” were too much for the Turkish side.

However, according to Turkish newspaper Takvim, Fenerbahce’s director of football, Damien Comolli, is in talks with the Gunners over a potential loan.

One sticking point could be his £350,000-a-week wages with Arsenal keen that the Turkish outfit shoulder some of the burden.

On the plus side is the sentimental pull that Fenerbahce has for Ozil, who supported the club as a youngster.

Thomas Muller

Muller move possible?

If Arsenal do get shot of Ozil, and Fenerbahce agree to pay some of his wages, might the Gunners make a move for Thomas Muller?

Metro thinks so with the paper reporting news carried by German publication Bild that Arsenal and Manchester United are on “red alert” for the frontman.

Apparently the 30-year-old has asked to end his connection with Bayern Munich after falling out of favour with head coach Niko Kovac.

Surplus to requirements

Muller, who has been reduced to the bench this season, was a target for Man Utd when Louis van Gaal was in charge and it’s rumoured that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a fan of the seasoned international.

So is Arsenal boss Emery, however, but does he need another striker given he’s got Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe and the hugely promising Gabriel Martinelli?

More to the point would Arsenal be able to afford Bayern’s asking price, which is expected to be in the region of £80m.
