Kompany: Man City have a ‘once in a lifetime’ title opportunity against United
Pep Guardiola’s side are just two victories away from winning the Premier League

Stoke City 0 Manchester City 2
Runaway leaders Manchester City are just two victories away from winning the Premier League title after beating Stoke City 2-0 last night.
Two goals from David Silva gave City the victory at the bet365 Stadium and extended their lead at the top of the table to 16 points. If Pep Guardiola’s side beat Everton on 31 March it means they can secure the title with victory against rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on 7 April.

City captain Vincent Kompany is excited by the prospect of the United showdown, but warned his team-mates and the club’s fans that Jose Mourinho’s side won’t make it easy for the champions-elect.
Quoted by the Daily Mail, Kompany said: “Everybody in the blue side of Manchester knows it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity [to win the title against United], but steady, it won’t be handed to us.
“Every win brings you closer to your goal but we want to keep this standard until the end of the season and into the next season too.”
Silva’s brace against Stoke was his seventh and eighth goals in the Premier League this season. City boss Guardiola praised the 32-year-old Spanish playmaker for his match-winning performance.
“The goals, I am happy for David, he has scored a lot of goals this season and the minutes he played,” Guardiola told Sky Sports. “He controlled the tempo perfectly. Normally people talk about his skills and technical ability and after that, he cannot be an aggressive competitor. And he has both.
“There are no doubts about his skills, but after that, in the bad moments he is always there, he controlled the game, the tempo and to help us have more control.”
City’s football against Stoke was described by pundit Gary Lineker as “scintillating”. We look at the Twitter reaction to Silva’s performance as City took another step closer to the Premier League title.
