Liverpool centre-half Dejan Lovren believes the Premier League leaders can remain unbeaten in England’s top-flight for the remainder of the season.

Earlier this week left-back Andy Robertson said that the Reds could hold off the challenge from Man City and win the Premier League title. Croatian defender Lovren believes they can go one better by becoming the next “invincibles”.

In the 2003-04 season, Arsenal’s invincibles won the title without a single defeat and Lovren says that Liverpool can emulate them.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Lovren said: “Hopefully we can be unbeaten until the end of the season. Of course it will be a challenge but this is what we want, this is why we came here to Liverpool, because we know we can do it. Arsenal did it before so why not?”

Jurgen Klopp’s side travel to Wolves tomorrow night and can extend their lead at the top to four points should they win at Molineux. Man City host Crystal Palace at the Etihad on Saturday.

Lovren insists that the focus at Anfield should just be on their own results and fixtures. He said: “Look, there’s a competition. This is what we want, but we don’t look at who is in front of us or behind us. It’s just about us.”

Liverpool play Man City in the Premier League at the Etihad on 3 January.
