After reports surfaced Wednesday that Sony Music plans to drop Dr. Luke amid a court battle between the producer and pop star Kesha, his attorney stepped forward to deny the rumors.
"This is not true," Christine Lepera said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times. "Luke has an excellent relationship with Sony. His representatives are in regular contact with executives at the highest levels at Sony and this has never come up." The Wrap quoted anonymous sources as saying Sony planned to part ways with Dr. Luke, born Lukasz Gottwald, because of the support Kesha has from other singers, including Lady Gaga and Adele. "There is no contest," the source said. "Kesha has no case in regards to her contract, but they can't afford the Adeles of the world out in the streets calling the label unsupportive."
Kesha sued Dr. Luke in 2014, claiming that she suffered sexual, physical, and mental abuse from him for more than a decade. Last month, a judge ruled against Kesha in court, denying an injunction she sought to get out of her contract with Sony. Dr. Luke denies the abuse allegations.
