Warrant reveals Prince met with doctor twice in the month before he died
Prince met with a doctor in Minnesota the day before he died and earlier in April, according to a search warrant obtained by news outlets Tuesday.
The warrant sought "any and all medical records, documents, reports, charts, photographs, prescriptions, doctor notes, and medical images for Prince Rogers Nelson," The Associated Press reports. Investigators are trying to determine the cause of Prince's death, and are looking into whether he died from an overdose. Dr. Michael Todd Schulenberg treated Prince on April 7 and 20 and prescribed him medications, the search warrant says. It did not say what medications he was prescribed, or if he ingested them, and police quickly moved to seal the warrant.
In the warrant, it also states that Schulenberg said he was dropping off test results at Prince's home near Minneapolis when he came upon the death scene, and before that he had prescribed "medications" to be filled at a Walgreen's. Prince's April 7 meeting with Schulenberg took place the day after he canceled performances in Atlanta, citing an illness. An anonymous law enforcement official told AP that on April 15, on the way home from his make-up performance, Prince's plane made an emergency landing in Moline, Illinois, and first responders found Prince unconscious. He was reportedly given a shot of Narcan, which is used in suspected opioid overdoses.
