Authorities in France say a fire that broke out near the Eiffel Tower late Thursday is not connected to the truck attack in Nice.
At least 84 people were killed and more than 100 injured when a man driving a truck plowed into a crowd of people celebrating Bastille Day. Not long after, a fire broke out at the Pont d'Iéna bridge over the River Seine, and rumors began to circulate online that it was a fresh attack against the Eiffel Tower. The Paris Police Prefecture announced on Twitter there was no fire at the Eiffel Tower, and the smoke was from an "accidental truck fire" that was quickly extinguished.
