British Airways announced Monday it is trying to fix an unspecified problem with its check-in system that is causing hours-long delays at several airports.
"Our IT teams are working as hard as they can to quickly fix a problem with our check-in system," British Airways said in a statement. "We're sorry for the delays some customers are experiencing as they check-in for their flights." Passengers at airports in San Francisco, Atlanta, Seattle, and Mexico City are tweeting that they have been waiting for hours to check-in, with one passenger in San Francisco reporting they were given a letter from the airline that said it was using a "manual fallback process," NBC News reports.
While British Airlines would not confirm what the problem is, the Metro Washington Airport Authority is classifying it as a "worldwide system outage."
