David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the creators and showrunners of Game of Thrones, are already looking ahead to their post-Thrones life, announcing on Wednesday their next HBO project: Confederate, a drama series set in a world where the American Civil War had a different outcome, slavery is "legal and has evolved into a modern institution," and the Third American Civil War is about to begin, Rolling Stone reports.
Benioff and Weiss will serve as creators, writers, executive producers, and showrunners. "We have discussed Confederate for years, originally as a concept for a feature film," they said in a statement. "But our experience on Thrones has convinced us that no one provides a bigger, better storytelling canvas than HBO." Production on the show will begin after the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones airs, which is likely to occur in 2018 or early 2019.
