Missing X-Men actress Fan Bingbing reappears after reportedly being released from detention
Three months after mysteriously disappearing from the public eye, one of China's most famous actresses just resurfaced on social media.
The whereabouts of X-Men: Days of Future Past and Iron Man 3 star Fan Bingbing were the subject of much speculation after she dropped off the map this summer. But the South China Morning Post reports that she was being held in secret detention. In this case, she was reportedly under "residential surveillance at a designated location" while authorities investigated her for possible tax evasion. Fan was released two weeks ago, the report says.
China's state-run news organization says that Fan has now been fined for tax evasion and ordered to pay about $130 million, CNN reports. She is accused of not accurately reporting the income she earned from certain film projects, an accusation that was originally leveled at her in May. Fan will not be charged with any crimes if she pays the taxes and fines before a certain deadline. This official report does not comment on where Fan is right now and whether she was detained.

Fan has now taken to the Chinese social media platform Weibo to release an apology to her fans and say that she is "ashamed of what I have done," per BBC. She also says she will "try my best" to pay the fees.
