Serena Williams is advancing to what could be a historic U.S. Open final, after defeating Elina Svitolina 6-3, 6-1 Thursday night.
Williams has won six U.S. Open titles, and her triumph on Thursday night was her 101st U.S. Open victory, tying her with Chris Evert. If Williams, the No. 8 seed, wins on Saturday, it will be her 24th Grand Slam victory, and she will tie Margaret Court's record.
Williams will play the winner of Thursday night's other semifinal game, which was still going on as of 11 p.m. ET — either No. 13 Belinda Bencic or No. 15 Bianca Andreescu.
