Ricky Gervais is hosting the Golden Globes for the 5th and 'very last time'
One last Ricky Gervais celebrity roast has been set for the 2020 Golden Globes.
The comedian has been announced as the host of next year's show honoring the best of film and television, returning for his record fifth time. But this will supposedly be it for him, with Gervais saying in a statement it's "the very last time I'm doing this, which could make for a fun evening," per Deadline.
During his first four ceremonies, Gervais was known for spending much of his time on stage brutally roasting celebrities, from making fun of Johnny Depp's widely-panned but surprisingly still nominated movie The Tourist to Depp's face, to introducing Mel Gibson by saying, "I like a drink as much as the next man, unless the next man is Mel Gibson."

Gervais hosted three years in a row from 2010 to 2012, subsequently returning in 2016. If even the most recent show was any indication, expect plenty of buttons to be pushed this year. In 2016, one of Gervais' first monologue jokes was, "I'm gonna be nice tonight. I've changed. Not as much as Bruce Jenner, obviously."
Anyone being selected to host the Golden Globes at all is also notable, as some wondered whether the show would forgo an emcee after the Academy Awards did so this year to great success. But the Golden Globes has decided not to follow suit, perhaps taking note of this year's disastrous host-less Emmys. Between Gervais as host and likely nominations for Joker, the takes should be plenty hot when the show airs on Jan. 5.
