Porsche Cayenne Coupe 2019: spy shots, prices, specs and UK release date

Porsche is gearing up to add a coupe to its line-up of Cayenne SUVs as fresh spy shots of the new model emerge.

The German carmaker is keeping the Cayenne strictly under wraps but eagle-eyed photographers have snapped a prototype being put through its paces in snowy conditions.

The images, posted on social media by Auto Express, suggest the new car will bear a strong resemblance to the coupe-like styling of the Audi Q8, Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus, all of which are based on the same underpinnings as the standard Cayenne.

Th upcoming model gets a sloping rear roofline and smaller rear window than the current SUV, a feature that will probably “compromise practicality by limiting rear headroom” and mean less boot space than the standard car’s 770 litres, the magazine says.

Aside from the car’s sleeker silhouette, the Cayenne Coupe looks set to retain much of the standard car’s styling, including the boxy front grille.

The tail-light design may be slightly different, judging by the stickers placed on the boot lid of the prototype, although it’s difficult to be certain as Porsche has covered most of the car’s rear end in camouflage.

There’s also a retractible rear-spoiler tucked into the boot lid that should help settle the car when travelling at high speeds, adds Autocar.

When will it be revealed?

Given that Porsche is still putting the the Cayenne Coupe through pre-production testing, fans are unlikely to see the car at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, which runs from 7 to 17 March.

Instead, it is tipped to appear at the Frankfurt Motor Show, which takes place in September, a couple of months after production kicks off.

When does it go on sale?

Sources close to the German carmaker told Autocar that sales are expected to open between October and December.

Will it go electric?

Not completely.

Motor1 reports that a “bonkers” Turbo S E-Hybrid model will join the range later in the car’s life cycle and will use the same 671bhp twin-turbo V8 as the electrified Panamera saloon.

Other models will be powered by an entry-level 440bhp 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 and a mid-range-topping 550bhp 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, says Autocar.
