New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) is reportedly interested in becoming the chair of the Republican National Committee, Politico reported Thursday, citing three sources familiar with the situation. Christie reportedly told members of President-elect Donald Trump's transition team that he'd like to be considered for the post, as current RNC chair Reince Priebus will join Trump's administration as White House chief of staff in January.

Christie was initially tapped to lead Trump's transition effort before being replaced by Vice President-elect Mike Pence last month, and his chances to be named to an administration job appear to be fading. Christie was the first major politician to throw his support behind Trump, endorsing Trump in February just weeks after dropping out of the presidential race himself.
