Today’s front pages: Archie the adorable and Pompeo the pugnacious
A round up of the headlines from UK newspapers on 9 May
After a day’s respite, it is a royal baby bonanza once again on the front pages following the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s announcement that their newborn is to be named Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.
The Daily Mail issues its second souvenir edition in three days dubbing the new baby “Archie the Adorable”, while pictures of the Queen gazing at her new great-grandchild make the splash in the Daily Mirror and Metro.
Meanwhile, The Guardian leads with another big warning on the climate crisis, with a report from the Environment Agency that some UK towns may have to be abandoned in the near future as they are “under threat from coastal and river floods” caused by global temperature rises.

Elsewhere both The Daily Telegraph and The Times feature stories from the US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s press conference with Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt. The Times goes with Pompeo’s evisceration of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn’s support for the “murderous” Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro. While The Telegraph goes with Pompeo’s most notable quote from the day: “Thatcher would have blocked Huawei.”
