He told Fifa.com: “What’s the point of us winning [against Germany] if we then go and lose to Sweden or Korea Republic? Obviously we celebrated in the dressing room but it was pretty low key. This is the first step and there’s still a long way to go.”
Mexico are joint top of group F with Sweden, who beat South Korea 1-0 in their first game.
Korea have failed to score in their last three matches and striker Son Heung-min is desperate to end the goal drought. The Tottenham star told Fifa.com: “I’d have to admit that the atmosphere in the camp is not so good at the moment. Nevertheless, we’ve still got two games to play and we should prepare well with a positive attitude.
“Obviously, I’m responsible for not being able to score a goal, because I’m one of the goalscorers in this team. I have to lead by example: I need to perform better in order to help the lads build up the confidence. If the team could not work well, I think that’s because I didn’t do my best in my role.
“We’re all under pressure at the moment because Mexico are a very good side that even beat Germany in their opener. Needless to say, this is a crucial game for us now.”
