Mexico battled well against the tournament favourites but could not break them down. Despite having the majority of the possession Mexico only had one shot on target compared to Brazil’s ten.

The 2-0 win means Brazil keep up their record of having never lost a World Cup match against a team from central or north America. For Mexico it was the seventh tournament in a row where they had been knocked out in the second round.

Next up for Brazil will be a quarter-final tie against Belgium or Japan on Friday 6 July (7pm). They will be without suspended midfielder Casemiro after he picked up a booking against Mexico.
