Lamborghini Centenario wows Geneva
Show-stopping supercar unveiled to mark centenary of founder Ferruccio's birth
Lamborghini has pulled the sheets off a new, limited-edition supercar at the Geneva Motor Show to celebrate the centenary of founder Ferruccio Lamborghini's birth.
The company is making just 40 examples of its Centenario – 20 hard tops and 20 convertibles – and they've all been sold for a price tag of £1.6m.
With its striking, carbon fibre design, weighing 3,351lb, this is the most powerful production Lamborghini ever. All four wheels are powered by a 760bhp naturally aspirated V12, the same engine as the Aventador but with the wick turned up to the tune of 19bhp and a redline of 8,600rpm. It takes 2.8secs to go 0-62mph and the Centenario tops out at more than 217mph.

Huge, carbon-ceramic brakes give the Centenario some supreme stopping power, taking 317 yards to come to a halt at 186mph. It also makes use of Lamborghini's four-wheel steering system for better high-speed stability but increased agility on particularly twisty sections of road.
The cabin features lots of carbon fibre detailing and Alcantara, as well as a 10.1ins touchscreen over the entire dashboard. It also has on-board internet and Apple CarPlay for added comfort.
It's the exterior that is catching most critics' eyes, though. "The styling is classic Lambo, with sharp creases, jagged edges and a low stance," says Auto Express. Added to the exposed carbon fibre and yellow highlights, that makes it one of the stand-out cars of this year's show - regardless of whether you think it's beautiful or a bit too much. Top Gear reckons it could knock the spotlight away from the new 1,500bhp Bugatti Chiron.
Lamborghini has form in producing special, ultra-rare limited editions for a select few customers, with previous cars including the Reventon, Sesto Elemento, Veneno, and Aventador J. But chief executive Stephan Winkelmann says the Centenario is the "most fitting tribute" the company could possibly produce for its founder, says Autocar.
