What's old is new again at the LAPADA Art & Antiques Fair
From furniture to fine art, the eighth edition of this prestigious Mayfair event promises a wealth of extraordinary pieces
Autumn sees some of the most anticipated and pre-eminent annual showcases of art and design hitting the capital. The LAPADA Art & Antiques Fair, now in its eighth year, has become an unmissable event on the cultural calendar, bringing together more than 100 dealers showcasing an array of works across different disciplines.
This year's event, taking place from 13 to 18 September in Mayfair's Berkeley Square, will feature a number of new exhibitors, demonstrating the breadth of objects on display. R. N. Myers & Son will bring some of the finest examples of European furniture from the 17th and 18th centuries, while Gideon Hatch will display his modern, handmade rugs alongside his pick of antique textiles.
The diverse selection of art includes pieces from Clive Barker, William Gear and Georges Bernede, brought by Whitford Fine Art, which specialises in works from 20th-century movements such as Modernism and Pop Art. Other exhibitors include Boundary Gallery, featuring pieces from contemporary figurative artists David Breuer-Weil and Sonia Lawson, and John Iddon Fine Art, with examples from Royal Academicians David Hockney and Donald Hamilton Fraser.

The fair also provides ample opportunity to peruse unusual and unique items. Expect a wealth of fascinating objects from Michael German Antiques, specialist in antique walking canes, armour and maritime artefacts, while M&D Moir will bring together an assortment of Art Nouveau and Art Deco glassware from esteemed makers such as Rene Lalique, Emile Galle, Daum and Loetz.
All exhibitors belong to the LAPADA Association of Art & Antiques Dealers, the largest organisation of its kind in the UK. As such, they are governed by a strict code of practice and a committee of 70 experts pre-vets each piece for added peace of mind – important for both seasoned connoisseurs and those just starting a collection.
