Call of Duty's latest title has been unveiled alongside a new trailer teasing the new single-player campaign.

Call of Duty: WWII takes the shooter series back to its roots. Players can expect gameplay with "a grittier take on the Second World War" compared to its "fast-and-lose" World War I rival Battlefield 1, says Alphr.

Players will follow the US 1st Infantry Division "as they fight their way through the European theatre of the war", reports GameSpot, with missions including "the D-Day invasion of Normandy and Battle of the Bulge".

Call of Duty is famed for its fast-paced online experience, but developer Sledgehammer Games remained tight-lipped on details for any new multiplayer game modes in the upcoming shooter.

There's also "boots-on-the-ground" gameplay, where players can experience "run-and-gun" action with World War II-era weaponry, and there's the return of the Nazi Zombies survival mode, which first appeared in 2008's Call of Duty: World at War.

Call of Duty: WWII hits store shelves on 3 November on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
