Little sister to the popular Riding House Cafe, this Victoria-based restaurant serves its Thanksgiving feast as it should be: family-style, with the table fit to bursting with tempting dishes to be shared among friends. Eschewing starters altogether, it's all about the main event of succulent roasted Norfolk Bronze turkey with all manner of American-inspired accompaniments, including mac and cheese, creamed corn casserole and maple-buttered sweet potatoes. To end is a choice of pies - a traditional pecan or the more unusual pumpkin brulee.

CUT at 45 Park Lane

Headed up by Austrian-American Wolfgang Puck, Cut at 45 Park Lane knows how to celebrate the occasion in opulent style. While turkey features – served with wild mushroom stuffing, braised greens and cranberry compote – the wide-ranging menu offers plenty of choice should you wish to stray from tradition, from its signature Wagyu steak to top-notch seafood. As expected from the celebrity chef, dishes are put together with an international outlook and contemporary flair, such as tuna tartare with wasabi aioli and togarashi crisps and cheesecake made with kabocha, a type of Japanese squash.

Red Rooster

Americanophiles rejoiced when Marcus Samuelsson brought his acclaimed Harlem restaurant to east London earlier this year. For its first Thanksgiving in the capital, Red Rooster is going all out with an authentic menu packed with its most popular dishes and other favourites from across the pond. For mains it’s turkey with cornbread stuffing, which comes with all the obligatory trimmings including sweet potatoes with marshmallows, mashed potatoes and green beans. Make sure to leave room for the cinnamon-baked apple pie, to be washed down with a pumpkin spice espresso martini.

Chutney Mary

An Indian restaurant may not be the first place that springs to mind when picking where to go for your Thanksgiving feast, but it's worth breaking with tradition for this twist from the renowned Chutney Mary. Turkey is overhauled with rich, decadent spices, as are the perfectly crisp potatoes served alongside. When it comes to afters, warming, autumnal flavours win out with an indulgent sticky toffee and ginger pudding with cinnamon Chantilly cream and brandy sauce.

The Game Bird at The Stafford London

The Game Bird's typical meat-heavy, comfort food lends itself particularly well to Thanksgiving fare. This year they are keeping it simple with a pared-back offering covering all the crowd-pleasing favourites associated with the celebration. Cosy in for the evening and tuck into spiced pumpkin soup, followed by roast turkey with all the customary accoutrements, including garlic mashed potato, roasted Brussels sprouts and glazed carrots. A classic pecan pie with boozy Bourbon cream provides the perfect finish.
