Aberdeen man proposes to girlfriend using the side of a cow

An Aberdeen farmer has surprised his girlfriend with a rather unusual proposal.

Chris Gospel popped the question to Eilidh Fraser by using livestock marker on her favourite cow Curlytop in Strichen, Aberdeenshire.

Gospel “went down on one knee after his girlfriend read the message”, reports the BBC.

He told the broadcaster when they picked a wedding venue that they would have to check the animal policy if planning to feature Curlytop again.

Gospel said: “She was a star. The writing was on the side and as we were walking up she was facing us.

“Eilidh could see something written on the side but not what it was. Curlytop came up to us and then turned.

“By the time Eilidh read it I was down on one knee and proposed.”

The cow is the 30-year-old bride-to-be’s favourite out of the cattle, as she is “affectionate” and viewed as more like a pet.

Eilidh, who works as a microbiologist in Aberdeen, said she has a special bond with the Simmental cross-breed as she handfed her.

She told the Aberdeen Evening Express: “She’s a really friendly cow and she would always be very inquisitive. I started off feeding her out of my hand and since then she has been very affectionate. She comes running whenever she sees us.”

Curlytop, who is named after the tuft of curls on top of her head, was daubed with the big question using a livestock marker.

Inspiration for the stunt came from a similar proposal Gospel had seen online.

He “decided to go ahead with it – despite admitting he was nervous – adding it was ‘typical’ of his sense of humour”, reports The Daily Telegraph.

Gospel said Curlytop would get an invite to the wedding, but was unsure whether it would be accepted.

He added: “She’s still not forgiven me for writing on her.”
