- When: Wednesday 17 April
- Where: Etihad Stadium, Manchester, England
- Kick off: 8pm (UK time)
- TV channel and live stream: BT Sport 2

If Manchester City are to keep their quadruple hopes alive then they will have to overturn a one-goal deficit against Tottenham in the Champions League quarter-final second leg.

Despite winning the first game, thanks to Son Heung-min’s goal, Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said that City are still the favourites to reach the semi-finals.
“We are happy as we showed great quality,” he said after last week’s victory. “The performance was good but there’s still 90 minutes to go… I think the team deserved the victory but there is still work to do. Manchester City are still the favourites but the victory makes us believe a little bit more.”
The winners of the Man City-Tottenham tie will play Ajax in the Champions League semi-finals. Dutch side Ajax beat Juventus 3-2 on aggregate to reach the last four.
Every game is a final
Man City face Tottenham twice at home this week - in the Champions League on Wednesday and in the Premier League on Saturday.
Currently two points behind Liverpool with a game in hand in the EPL title race City boss Pep Guardiola knows it’s a vital week in his side’s season.
The Spaniard told the BBC: “If we don’t win these games, we will be out in two competitions. They are finals for us. I had that feeling from weeks ago as well, not just for this week.”
Defender John Stones added: “I don’t think a lot of things are impossible; that is the mindset of different people. If you don’t dream big, then you are not going to get anywhere near it. It comes from within everyone. We have this belief and ambition to do it.”
What the managers had to say
Pep Guardiola, Man City: “I’m really curious how are fans are going to react. [An atmosphere like] the Liverpool game will be enough for me - a little bit better. I want to see if they [the fans] want to get to the semi-finals. Do it for the guys - the last 20 months, they are so proud with what they have done but they are human beings. They will have bad moments in the games and at that moment we need our supporters. At this stage, without supporters, we cannot go through. I’m expecting.”
Mauricio Pochettino, Tottenham: “Manchester City for me is one of the best teams in the world and a clear favourite to win the Premier League and the Champions League. For us to beat them in the first leg was an amazing result but we know very well the tie is still open and [it] is going to be very, very tough. But we have the belief that we are going to fight. It is going to be an amazing challenge and fight. I am so motivated and excited.”
Team news and possible starting XIs
Man City injury news and suspensions
The London Evening Standard reports that City midfielder Fernandinho faces a “race against time” to feature against Spurs. However, the BBC says that the Brazilian has trained this week.
Bernardo Silva missed the first leg but featured in the Premier League win against Crystal Palace at the weekend.
City are also waiting on the fitness of Fabian Delph and Oleksandr Zinchenko but striker Sergio Aguero is fit after being taken off against Palace.
Tottenham injury news and suspensions
England striker Harry Kane is out after suffering a potential season-ending ankle injury in the first leg.
However, Spurs have been boosted after midfielder Dele Alli returned to training after breaking his hand against City last week. Alli is named in the squad for the trip to the Etihad.
The Standard reports that Spanish forward Fernando Llorente is a concern because of a knock. Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura are fit and ready to play.
Harry Winks, Eric Dier and Serge Aurier are all out, says the BBC, but Erik Lamela has trained and will face a fitness test along with Alli.
Possible starting XIs
How the teams could line up at the Etihad, according to Uefa.com.
- Man City possible starting XI (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Otamendi, Laporte, Mendy; Fernandinho/David Silva, Gündoğan, De Bruyne; Bernardo Silva, Agüero, Sterling
- Tottenham possible starting XI (4-2-3-1): Lloris; Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose; Sissoko, Wanyama; Eriksen, Lucas, Son; Llorente
Predictions
London Evening Standard: “Tottenham’s challenge has been made all the harder with Kane’s injury and, while he may not have scored in their first leg win, his hold-up play and work rate will be sorely missed. Spurs will test City on the counter-attack with the pace of Lucas and Son, but City should have enough to get the job done - though don’t be surprised if this one goes beyond the 90. Score prediction: Man City 2 Tottenham 0, after extra time [2-1 on aggregate].”
90min: “Despite trailing by a goal, Man City will not be going into this second leg with all guns blazing, as Guardiola will be aware of how lethal a Spurs away goal would be. Expect this to be a very tight, tense affair with neither side wanting to commit too much too soon. With Tottenham struggling away from home of late, City may just have too much for them on Wednesday night. Score prediction: Man City 2 Tottenham 0 [2-1 on aggregate].”
SportsMole: “Tottenham have won each of their last three Champions League matches - never before have they won four in a row in the competition - and Man City have lost all five of their previous European matches against fellow English clubs, including all three in the Champions League. The Citizens may be considered the favourites with the bookies, but Pochettino’s men will be confident of creating some personal history. Score prediction: Man City 1 Tottenham 0 [1-1 on aggregate, Spurs through on pens].”
