Benares, Mayfair
Located in Mayfair leafy Berkeley Square, Benares has been serving up fine Halal-certified food for almost 15 years, and was awarded a Michelin star for its vibrant, European-influenced Indian food in 2007.
As the London Evening Standard notes, Benares was “one of the earliest Indian restaurants to make a determined effort to rise above the torpor of chicken tikka masala”.
The set menus are a steal, with a three-course set lunch for £35, or two courses for £29.
House of Ho, Fitzrovia
Described by the Culture Trip travel website as one of central London’s trendiest Vietnamese and Thai restaurants, House of Ho serves succulent halal-certified chicken on an eclectic menu that also includes sushi and sashimi.
“Plump for a portion of grilled glazed chicken wings or one of their delicious bento boxes,” says Culture Trip.
Tagine, Balham
“For delicious Moroccan food, you’ll need to visit the south of London, to find Tagine,” says BuzzFeed. “Not only are the dishes Moroccan, but the interior is said to be reminiscent of an authentic Moroccan restaurant.”
Gorgeous decor aside, it’s the halal-friendly menu that really grabs your attention, with highlights including the Tagine Basla, slow-cooked lamb shank with crispy fried onion and potatoes.
Chi Kitchen, Marylebone
London has recently seen a range of excellent halal-certified breakfast joints popping up around the city.
None surpass Chi Kitchen, which prides itself on its chicken sausages and turkey bacon, served up alongside fried mushrooms, eggs, toast and beans.
Burgeri, Soho
Everything is halal on the menu at Burgeri, in Soho, “even the Wagyu beef”, says Time Out.
Owned by a business group based in Qatar, Burgeri also has a number of branches across the Middle East, where it is renowned for its superb burgers.
The London Burgeri is the only UK branch so far, but as the Halal Gems website said shortly after the restaurant opened in 2016: http://halalgems.com/gem-hunter-review-burgeri-london/ “Is it too early to say that I’ll be expecting more sites from Burgeri in the UK?”
