Sony has revealed a teaser trailer for a sequel Naughty Dog's post-apocalyptic game - The Last of Us.

The trailer, unveiled at the company's annual PlayStation Experience event in San Francisco, focuses on Ellie, who appears to have matured since the first title, which suggests the new game could be set five to ten years in the future. It also appears little has changed in the post-apocalyptic world - she is shown playing guitar in a derelict house.

You can watch the trailer below - although it may be inappropriate for children.

Neil Druckmann, the director of The Last of Us: Part 2, this week revealed his team had hired Westworld writer Halley Gross to pen the game.

In addition, he told fans at the PlayStation Experience event that the story will counter the bonding experience of the first game with "hate". Instead of continuing the story from the perspective of Joel, players will experience the story in Ellie's shoes.

The first game launched on the PlayStation 3 to critical acclaim in 2013, followed by a remastered version for the PlayStation 4 in 2014.

The Independent reports that The Last of Us: Part 2 is unlikely to appear "until late 2018".
