Audi E-tron GT 2020: specs, pricing and UK release
Porsche Taycan-based all-electric coupe concept debuts at the LA Auto Show
The E-tron GT uses the same J1 production platform from parent company Volkswagen that underpins the upcoming Porsche Taycan. The E-tron also incorporates a four-door coupe silhouette akin to its sporty sibling.
Despite the similarities, Audi Sport’s marketing chief Stefan Holischka told Autocar that the Taycan “will be a different character” to the E-tron GT.

“We’ve tried to differentiate as much as possible. The [Porsche and Audi] designers were in close contact all the time,” he said.
Several elements of the E-tron GT’s design are adopted from Audi’s PB18 electric supercar concept from the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August, and the company’s new E-tron SUV is another source of inspiration, says Car magazine.
These common features include the tail-light bar that runs along the width of the car and the PB18’s inverted “singleframe” grille, the magazine says. There are even elements of the new A7, too, such as the roofline that slopes downwards towards the rear.
Inside, meanwhile, is a mix of man-made and recycled materials, including old fishnets for carpet fabrics, says Evo. While that “may sound ghastly”, the E-tron GT is still “a comfortable and stylish place to be”.

Performance and battery

Peel back the E-tron GT’s skin and you’ll find a 96kWh battery system and a pair of electric motors, one on each axle, providing four-wheel drive, notes Autocar.
The all-electric powertrain has an output of 582bhp, the magazine says, which helps the E-tron GT spring from 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds before reaching a top speed of 149mph.
Under the new Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP), the electric grand tourer has a battery range of around 250 miles, according to Evo. The vehicle also supports 800v charging systems, meaning it can take just 20 minutes to reach 80% charge.

While the E-tron GT is just a concept for now, Audi intends to put the grand tourer into production.
Auto Express says the sleek EV is on course to arrive in 2020 and cost around £100,000. This would put it in direct competition with the Tesla Model S 100D, which is priced at £92,300.
