City Concours: London's luxurious new car show

Some of the world's most luxurious and expensive cars will be on display at next week's inaugural London City Concours motor show.

The event, which is similar to Pebble Beach in the US and Italy's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, will be hosted in the gardens of the Honourable Artillery Company in the City of London, where a mix of 80 modern and historic automobiles will be on display.

According to Classic and Performance Car, a further 80 vehicles will appear on manufacturer and car specialist stands.

Jaguar's earliest D-Type Le Mans entrant will be among the star cars at the show. The D-Type finished second in the 1957 running of Le Mans, in which the British carmaker took home a historic first, second, third, fourth and sixth place finish.

James Dean's Jaguar XKSS will also be on display, a car Evo says is "one of Jaguar's Le Mans-winning D-Types with a windscreen and a bit of extra practicality". Other cars at the show include a Porsche 911 GT1 Strassenversion designed to take on McLaren's F1 GTR at the pinnacle of sports car racing in the 1990s.

This particular version is the road-going variant of the race car, although the differences between it and the competition car are very minimal.

One of the more exclusive cars at the event will be the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante Spyder, which is based on the company's V8-engined 8C GT car. It takes Italian coachbuilders Touring Superleggera around 10,000 hours to build by hand.

There's also a host of competition cars heading to the show, says Classic and Performance Car, with Ferrari's 365 GTB/4 Competizione and the Aston Martin DB4 Zagato set to appear.

Alongside the cars, luxury Swiss watch brand Breguet will be showcasing a very special chronograph from the 1930s.

The Breguet dashboard chronograph No 2023 was created for celebrated manufacturer Ettore Bugatti.

Bugatti wanted to fit his luxurious 'Royale' cars with a chronograph in the middle of the steering wheel that had a tachymeter function, to allow drivers to calculate their speed.

Andrew Evans, City Concours Director, said: "we are delighted that Breguet will be showcasing its timepieces at the event and to have the Breguet Bugatti Chronograph on display will be another big attraction."
