Fosu-Mensah, Iwobi, Carroll and Vardy in team of the week

Leicester took another huge step towards the Premier League title with victory over Sunderland on Sunday. The Foxes remain seven points clear of their only remaining challengers, Tottenham Hotspur, who beat Manchester United.

Arsenal are now 13 points behind Leicester, with only 18 points left to play for after their 3-3 draw with West Ham.

At the bottom of the table, Aston Villa are not yet officially relegated but would eclipse Leicester's Cinderella story if they were to survive the drop. The Villans are 15 points from safety with five games remaining and a goal difference of -41.

But who were the stars of this weekend's action? Here's The Week's pick of the experts' picks.

Goalkeeper: Heurelho Gomes (Watford)

The Hornets ended a run of four straight defeats with a 1-1 draw against Everton. The point was largely down to "goalkeeper Gomes' heroics which included a slew of second-half saves", says the Daily Star.

Defence: Alberto Moreno (Liverpool), Toby Alderweireld (Spurs), Steve Cook (Bournemouth), Timothy Fosu-Mensah (Man Utd)

Liverpool full-back Moreno scored one and set one up as the Reds demolished Stoke City 4-1. "This lad always looks impressive on the ball, particularly in forward positions," says Garth Crooks, of the BBC. "When he's on top of his game, he can be a delight to watch."

Crooks was also impressed by goal-scoring Spurs man Alderweireld, as were most other observers. He was "the star of the show" against Man United, says the BBC pundit. "The Belgium international has held the fort brilliantly for Spurs, particularly in the absence of Jan Vertonghen. His quiet demeanour often belies his commanding presence in defence but it was his aerial prowess in attack that cut United to ribbons." He also managed an impressive 15 Fantasy Premier League points this weekend.

Bournemouth reached the 40-point mark with victory over doomed Aston Villa and defender Cook scored the opening goal with a "delightfully cheeky finish", ESPN says. He has been with the Cherries since 2012 and is one of several players who have "seamlessly made the transition into Premier League life".

Fosu-Mensah's value became apparent the moment he was substituted against Spurs. Within minutes, United were 3-0 down, with all three goals coming down their left flank. "An impressive showing until injury forced him off and without him, United crumbled to a 3-0 defeat," says Goal.com.

Midfield: Erik Lamela (Spurs), Gylfi Sigurdsson (Swansea City), Alex Iwobi (Arsenal)

Mauricio Pochettino has got the best out of Lamela at Spurs. He has been a "revelation this season", says football writer Richard Jolly, of The National in Abu Dhabi. Against United he was "goalscorer and man of the match".

Alongside him in midfield is former Spurs midfielder Sigurdsson, who has prospered since returning to Swansea after two unproductive seasons in London. He makes Harry Redknapp's team of the week in the Daily Telegraph, and Jolly notes he has nine goals this calendar year.

Iwobi makes team of the week yet again, even though Arsenal's title hopes were finally extinguished in their match against West Ham United. "The youngster was enormously impressive again in the 3-3 draw with West Ham and set up the Gunners' first two goals for Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez," notes ESPN.

Attack: Divock Origi (Liverpool), Andy Carroll (West Ham), Jamie Vardy (Leicester)

"This youngster is looking better by the minute," says Garth Crooks discussing Liverpool striker Origi, who scored twice against Stoke. "He took his goals brilliantly but the confidence he is displaying suggests that Klopp believes this could be the real deal."

After scoring a hat-trick, West Ham battering ram Carroll may have given England manager Roy Hodgson a headache along with the Arsenal defence. "Carroll is almost unstoppable when the ball is crossed into the box and he could definitely be an option off the bench at the Euros if Roy Hodgson wanted one," says Harry Redknapp in the Telegraph. The player was the top Fantasy Premier League scorer this weekend, with 16.

Vardy had not scored for Leicester for six games ahead of the Sunderland match but rediscovered his scoring boots on Sunday. "The first was a terrific finish from Danny Drinkwater's pass but the second was all Vardy, who created the goal himself through sheer hard work," says ESPN.
