Ibrahimovic, Coutinho, Mane and Aguero in team of the week

With the first week of the Premier League done and dusted, Manchester United sit at the top of the table - for what it's worth thanks to their 3-1 win over Bournemouth.

Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City also won on the opening weekend, while there were defeats for defending champions Leicester City and Arsenal.

But who were the standout performers of the first round of matches? Here's The Week's pick of the experts' picks:

Goalkeeper: Maarten Stekelenburg (Everton)

Put in a "superb performance" for Everton against Tottenham Hotspur, says Garth Crooks of the BBC. Stekelenburg earned his new side a draw against one of the title contenders.

Defence: James Collins (West Ham), Eric Bailly (Man United), Curtis Davies (Hull City)

Collins "produced the finish of his life to level the scores for the Hammers against Chelsea while also working incredibly hard during the second half as the Blues threw everything they had at West Ham", says Australian website Sports Fan.

Bailly "was imperious at the back as the side defeated Bournemouth", says Goal.com. "Rarely looking flustered or challenged, the Ivorian was supremely composed throughout as he brushed his opponents aside."

Davies "was sensational throughout Saturday's encounter with Leicester City and showed the sort of leadership qualities that seem to be so desperately lacking [at Hull City]", says Crooks of the BBC. "He and his team-mates did not give Jamie Vardy a kick."

Midfield: Robert Snodgrass (Hull City), Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane (both Liverpool), Nathan Redmond (Southampton), Eden Hazard (Chelsea)

Snodgrass scored the winner for Hull against Champions Leicester. "The Scotland international has had a terrible time with injuries but his left-footed blast gave Hull the win over Leicester, sealing the surprise result of the weekend," says Goal.com.

Sane "looked unplayable at times and scored a wonder goal as Liverpool ran riot against Arsenal", says the Daily Star. His team-mate, Coutinho, scored twice and was the top scoring player of the weekend on Fantasy Premier League.

It was "a debut to remember" for Saints signing Redmond, says the Daily Star, which reports he played up front and bagged a goal as Southampton drew with Watford.

Hazard "looked to be back to his best against West Ham", says the Star. He scored a penalty and was a constant threat.

Attack: Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Man United), Sergio Aguero (Man City)

Ibrahimovic scored on his Premier League debut for United, but that wasn't all. "On top of his obvious natural goal scoring ability, the 34-year-old showed some excellent awareness in his game and provided some lovely link-up play for United up front," says Metro.

Aguero also got off to a scoring start against Sunderland. "Pep Guardiola's side look a work in progress but the Argentine has oodles of quality and continues to prove his devastating ability on a consistent basis, netting a penalty in the 2-1 win," says Goal.com.
