Leicester City next manager odds: Brendan Rodgers favourite to replace Claude Puel

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has emerged as the bookies’ favourite to take over at Premier League side Leicester City.

Appointed 16 months ago, 57-year-old Frenchman Puel led Leicester to a ninth-place finish last season but five defeats in the last six league games has left them 12th in the table.

Leicester have announced that assistant manager Jacky Bonnevay has also the left the club, so first-team coaches Mike Stowell and Adam Sadler will take temporary charge. The Foxes play at home against Brighton in the Premier League on Tuesday 26 February (7.45pm).

In a statement Leicester said: “The club would like to thank Claude for his efforts in leading the team during his 16 months in the role and wish him well in his future career. Assistant manager Jacky Bonnevay also departs with the club’s best wishes.

“First-team coaches Mike Stowell and Adam Sadler, supported by the club’s established backroom staff, will assume responsibility for the senior squad while the club begins the process of appointing a new manager.

“The board will make no further comment until this process is complete.”

Next manager betting odds

With Puel now departed, Leicester City are looking for their fourth permanent manager in less than two years.

According to The Sack Race website former Liverpool manager Rodgers is favourite for the Leicester job ahead of Michael Appleton and David Wagner. Oddschecker also place Rodgers as the favourite while Neil Lennon, Nigel Pearson and Rafa Benitez are among the early contenders.

Rodgers, who has won seven trophies at Celtic since moving to Glasgow in 2016, told the BBC: “My job is to concentrate on the football aspect, and that is with Celtic. I’ve been stood here for two and a half years and I’ve been asked similar questions, my message is always very, very clear, I’m very concentrated on the game.”
