During the festivities, musician Johnatha Bastos played the electric guitar with his feet, and there was singing, dancing, and fireworks. Officials also honored Iranian cyclist Bahman Golbarnezhad, who died on Saturday in an accident that took place during competition.

China received the highest number of medals, with 239, followed by Britain with 147 and Ukraine with 117. Sir Philip Craven, International Paralympic Committee president, said the Games were "uniquely Brazilian and wondrous," and he bestowed upon Rio his organization's highest honor, the Paralympic Order.
