Argentina advanced out of the World Cup's highly-competitive Group D on Tuesday by the skin of its teeth, beating Nigeria 2-1. Beloved forward Lionel Messi scored the beautiful first goal in the 14th minute, with Nigeria's Victor Moses putting in the equalizer in the 51st minute and Argentina's Marcos Rojo sealing his team's victory in the 86th minute.
Croatia had already locked its position in the Round of 16, having earlier beaten Nigeria and Argentina. By beating Iceland 2-1 in a simultaneous game Tuesday, Croatia opened the door for Argentina to advance. The first games of the Round of 16 begin on June 30 in Russia.
