Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: 'I think we have the grounds' to impeach Trump

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez already shook up the system when she crushed longtime Rep. Joe Crowley (N.Y.) in Tuesday's Democratic primary in New York's 14th District. But she's not stopping there.
If she's elected this November, Ocasio-Cortez will support impeaching President Trump, she said in a CNN interview Wednesday. "I think that we have the grounds to do it," Ocasio-Cortez said. "When people break the law, potentially break the law ... we have to hold everyone accountable. ... No person is above that law."
Trump isn't the only leader Ocasio-Cortez is questioning. She's overthrown Crowley, whom CNN's Poppy Harlow called the "heir apparent" to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). And if Democrats win back the House in November, Ocasio-Cortez isn't sure she'll want Pelosi back as House speaker either. "I think it's far too early to make those kinds of commitments right now," Ocasio-Cortez said when asked if she'd support Pelosi. "It's entirely possible that her leadership may stay, but it's also entirely possible that we can look at other options."

Still, Ocasio-Cortez affirmed that her campaign will focus more on progressive policy than impeachment. The 28-year-old democratic socialist will likely be elected this fall to represent the deep-blue district, where her predecessor held his spot for the last 20 years.
